Pycnogenol

Pycnogenol (pronounced pic-noj-en-all) is a naturally occuring antioxidant complex extracted from the bark of French maritime pine trees.
Inflammation
To reduce inflammation a dose of 150mg -200mg is recommended. It appears that Pycnogenol has broad anti-inflammatory properties. It works by reducing the activity of two enzymes which are known to promote inflammation: COX-1 and COX-2.
A study published in Nutrition Research found that Pycnogenol could reduce stiffness and pain. Patients were asked to take 50mg of Pycnogenol three times a day. After three months the patients reported an average of a 35% reduction in stiffness, a 43% reduction in pain and a 52% improvement in physical function..
Cardiovascular health
As Pycnogenol can enhance blood vessel tone, it may be useful for maintaining circulatory health.
In research, it has also been seen to lead to a modest reduction in "bad" cholesterol and an increase in "good" cholesterol.
The cardiovascular benefit of Pycnogenol has been shown to maintain male sexual health in more than 75% of menwho took part in the research. They were asked to take it along side L-arginine (an amino acid).
